Modern-day timber treatment technology means it is highly resistant to rot or borer attack, and wooden frame fire resistance has come an incredibly long way in recent decades too.

Post and Beam Frames
Post and beam frames are less common than ordinary timber frame layouts, but are still a popular option today. They are highly recognisable due to the visibility of large wooden beams from the interior, and are also used commonly in larger commercial or community structures.
They allow for a more spacious ceiling construction, and have an attractive aesthetic appeal. Internal load bearing walls are typically less important when using this method, as the beam structure has much greater strength capabilities. This allows for greater freedom when it comes to floor layouts, and favours projects where an open-plan design is required. This style of framing can also work as a hybrid along with timber framing, with different parts of a building being constructed with different styles to capture the benefits of both.
